Ebony has released the names of people who made it to their Power 100 list. The feature recognizes the many leaders of the black community within the fields of the arts, politics, education, community activism, media, and medicine.
Among the individuals being honored are artists known for their musical prowess, like D’Angelo and Prince , who are also celebrated for their commitment to using music as a tool for political activism.
Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae are acknowledged for producing songs, “Alright” and “Hell You Talmbout,” respectively, that have been taken up by the Black Lives Matter and anti-police brutality movements. Similarly, John Legend, and J. Cole are being lauded for their philanthropic work devoted to the same movements and those in need.
